It takes incredible strength to be able to access love and compassion in the face of our own anger, hurt, or yes — even hate. I believe it boils down to how we truly feel about ourselves. It is our own deep-seated insecurities that create the strongest emotions in us, and it is our own self-loathing that leads us to hate others as easily as we might. The strongest and most genuinely self-assured amongst us are the quickest to forgive. And remember — forgiving and choosing not to hate does not mean that we have no boundaries. It does not mean there are no consequences. But recognizing that hate only breeds more of the same and in no way advances us productively is something I want for our society.
